July 2010 In order to best concentrate on new techniques and customer service, I only accept orders via private arrangement, please contact me for when orders will be accepted for finishwork :). If you are interested in being on the commission list, please see the info below, then contact me at ZornArt@gmail.com. I will post to my Yahoogroup when there is an opening. :)
I will be offering a few painted pieces, my Yahoogroup will receive the announcements. I will be offering a Sarah Rose Reiner for sale sometime this summer! To join the Yahoogroup, click here.
A note to my current customers: Thank you! You are the best! I have a number of commissions in-house that are currently Paid In Full. These pieces must receive my priority attention, and will be worked on prior to those paid by half. April, May, and July are very busy showing months for me, I do keep working in between my travels, but please be aware things in the studio slow down a bit during these times. I appreciate your patience!
There is now a Progress Report Page for current customers! Please click here.
Please contact me at ZornArt@gmail.com if you have any questions. :) -Karen

It is suggested that you have your horse prepped in advance. Gina Hyatt does the majority of my customer's prep work
Your prepped horse must arrive (or be available for pickup at Gina Hyatt's) within two weeks.
Half payment OR pre-approved time payment installment is due with the horse's arrival to Zorn Art Studio
FINISHWORK SERVICES
Pieces are finished in mixed media with a variety of techniques: Acrylic basecoats are applied with a professional-grade airbrush, nothing beats the airbrush for a smooth rich glowing finish with outstanding shading. All details are done by hand with acrylics, pigment dust/pastels, pencils, inks, and charcoal. All pinto and appaloosa work is done by hand, no masking is used. I use very high quality artist's materials for every step of the finishwork process. Guarantee is below.
Please note that bodies, prepping and postage are extra!
All prices are individually determined. All orders must be pre-approved prior to shipping in your models.
Your satisfaction is extremely important, and I will do what I can to assure this.
All commission projects assume customer has read, understood, and agreed to this entire webpage.

PREPPING
Prepping is likely available from Gina Hyatt of Dog Hair Studio. Her prices start in the neighborhood of $40 for traditionals. Items can be shipped directly to her. Marshgmh@aol.com. International customers will need to contact a different prepper, such as Betty Hook of Eclipse Prepping
Items prepped by other professional preppers (such as Carla Miller, Elizabeth Simpson, Renna Moss, Terri Grothspietz) are accepted.
The choice of preppers is yours, but please do be aware that I cannot guarantee paint work over unknown prep work.
I am extremely picky, and will not paint inadequately prepped pieces. If additional prep work is required, it will be billed at $40 an hour/portion thereof.
Pieces must be prepped in white primer or white spray gesso only: latex spray paint, enamel spray paint, or brushed/sponged on gesso is not acceptable.
Yes, I can do leg/tail/ear repairs on items that Gina will prep and I will be painting, please contact me, prices start at $35 for this service (plus prep fee). Or you can have Gina do the repairs as well :)
Restorations: please contact Karen Dietrich klfarm@windstream.net
CUSTOMIZATION INFORMATION
Minor customization (gender, manes, tails, ears) may be available.
I no longer take public commissions for drastic customs. Private treaty only.
I will repair legs, ears, tails, etc. on resins that are to be painted by me.

BOOKING, DEPOSITS, AND PAYMENT
Payment is accepted by US Postal Service Money Order or, with permission/preapproval PAYPAL (zornart@gmail.com). Personal checks will be returned.
Payment should be sent in a trackable manner.
Payment must arrive with the horse, or prior to its arrival to Zorn Art Studio. Models will not be accepted without payment.
Please ship your model with identification information: your name, email, and return shipping address, as well as the name of the model.
FOR APPROVED TIME PAYMENT PLANS:
Please note that work on your piece does not begin until at least half payment is received! PLEASE keep this in mind when determining how long your piece will take for completion! The "completion clock" doesn't start ticking until half payment is made, regardless of when your model is received. Also note, that if there is a number of paid-in-full pieces ahead of yours, they will receive priority attention.
I reserve the right to require payment in full prior to commencement of work. Thanks for your understanding.
It is YOUR responsibility to keep track of your payments, the amount due, and to remit them on a monthly basis.
NonPayment or Late Payment: late or absent time payments as well as late final payments (2 weeks after notification of completion) will result in forfeiture of all funds paid. Your piece may be sold to recoup my fees, no remuneration will be made for the value of the resin or body horse.
STARTING THE PAINT WORK
• Unless you are on a pre-approved time payment plan, full payment (not including shipping fees) must be received prior to any work being done.
• if you need to postpone your piece, you may be moved to the end of the current list.
COMPLETION TIME
• Completion time depends on two things: the complexity of your piece and its payment status. • I paint in many layers of quality paints, pastels, pigments, inks, pencils/charcoals, and sealants; each layer requiring considerable drying time that cannot be rushed. I cannot guarantee finishing a piece based on a tight show schedule. If speed is of the essence, there are artists out there who guarantee rapid turnaround time with payment in full.
Models that are paid in full can generally be completed within three months. If time of is of the essence for you, I strongly encourage payment in full up front.
Please note that the "completion time" clock does not start running until payment for the finishwork is received, regardless of when the model was received. Your model will not be started until payment is received, regardless of prior discussed time-frame or showing schedule. If there are a number of paid in full peices ahead of yours, they will receive priority attention. I am sorry to be so strict about this and mention it repeatedly, but many people send in their models with a tight time-frame without any payment. To insure the fastest completion on your model, please make sure your payments are current or complete. Thanks!
• You will be given a “heads-up” that your piece is nearing completion.
• Pictures will be emailed to you for your approval upon completion. If actual photographs are required, there is a small fee for processing.
• For Time Payment Customers: Final payment MUST be made within 2 weeks of notification of completion/acceptance or the piece will be placed up for sale (see below).
• For Time Payment Customers, model will be shipped after final payment clears.
CANCELLATIONS
No refunds can be made.
Work-In-Progress will not be sent out. I reserve the option to keep the piece in progress; and at my discretion, get you a new duplicate resin or OF body, or refund you the price of the resin based on current market prices. For prepped resins, you will be sent a prepped resin or refunded the price of the resin plus prepping.
• I reserve the right to cancel and refund any commission project at any time.
SHIPPING
• All shipping is done via USPS, priority and signature required. Insurance is required for all shipments. The first $200 in value is insured via the USPS, the remainder is via my private business insurance. This will be explained on your shipping invoice just in case it is needed.
Please note: The price charged to ship your package will not be the same as printed on the shipping label, as a portion of the shipping insurance costs are borne by my business insurance. Shipping charges are calculated to be approximately the same or less than USPS rates for fully insured priority shipping.
• I cannot be held responsible for the piece after it is given to the USPS or other shipping carrier.
• Keep all shipping materials until you determine that your piece has arrived safely. If damage occurs, I will assist you in filing your claim.
• International shipping is available, fully insured and full value will be declared. International shipments are subject to an additional handling fee.
MISCELLANEOUS
If there are sculptural or conformational issues with your piece, they will NOT be corrected unless this is part of your arrangement. Uneven hooves, uneven eyes, uneven ears, incorrect conformation, missing details, etc. need to be addressed prior to the prepping process. Please address such issues with your prepper as well as myself.
Price Quotes are only good for 15 days.
Minors must have a legal guardian make commission arrangements. No commissions will be accepted from minors without this written consent.
Portraits are to be considered artistic likenesses, not photographic copies. You must send photographs or color prints of your horse accurately representing its and markings. If poor quality photographs are sent, I can only do my best.
Copying Work: I will not copy the work of other artists. As far as my own work, I can make "similar" pieces to what I have done in the past; however, my abilities and finishwork techniques, and materials are constantly changing. :)
Communication: I monitor my email account, ZornArt@gmail.com several times a day. If you email me and do not hear from me, please try again. I endeavor to answer all emails as soon as I can.
I do suggest that each customer supply a phone number. I absolutely will NOT call you unless there is an urgent reason, nor will I give out your number. I am not a phone person myself, and do not like to be bothered, either. If this is a problem for you, we can work around it. :) Yahoo Group: I highly encourage all commission customers to join my Yahoo Group, in the event I need to do a mass communication in a hurry.
Guarantee of Finishwork: The finishwork is guaranteed not to peel, lift, or crack for one year from date of shipment to you IF the item was prepped by myself or Gina Hyatt, and the problem is due to the finishwork, not the model itself. The materials of the underlying body may be unstable and cause issues with the finishwork, and this cannot be foreseen by Zorn Art Studio. Models altered and/or prepped by others are not covered under this guarantee. Any finishwork damage caused by exposure to extreme temperature, improper storage/handling, or inadequate protection provided during transportation are not covered under this guarantee.
Scratch Repairs: For the original owner of the piece, for the first year I offer very low cost scratch repair. Any damage caused by extreme temperature, improper storage, handling, or inadequately protected transport of the piece; or by damages related to the use of problematic packing materials (toilet tissue, cloth, or bubblewrap applied directly to the surface of the piece) will be billed at regular going rates plus return postage.
Photographs: My photographs may not be used to resell a model, as it may have changed since I photographed it. I retain the right to use photographs for promotional materials.
Your Satisfaction is Important! Please let me know immediately upon receipt if you are not satisfied with your piece, and I will work with you to insure your satisfaction. No refunds. Please feel free to check for my references on MHHR, click Here for link.
